VIDEO: Who is Mitch Englander?

The Encino-born Valley native tells the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association about his life as the child of a single mom and how he learned to dedicate himself to public service.

Los Angeles City Councilman Mitchell Englander was the featured speaker at the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association's monthly community meeting at Notre Dame High School Wednesday night during his first-ever public appearance before the high-powered gathering.

Before Englander gave an articulate and fact-filled talk about the state of our city's streets—the talk was titled “Our Streets Are Horrendous—What is the Solution?”—SOHA President Richard Close asked him to tell the gathering of about 100 people about his background.

Most people know Englander through "a quote they read in the newspaper or they've seen him on television, but who is Mitch Englander?" Close said in his introductory speech. "Where did you grow up, tell us about your family, so we can have an understanding of what your roots are."
