The knife-wielding man fatally shot by Los Angeles police in Van Nuys was identified Sunday.
Coroner's officials identified the man as 18-year-old Jeovany Mendoza of Van Nuys.
Police were sent to an address near Saticoy Street and Tobias Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in response to a 911 call about an assault, a lieutenant at the Van Nuys station said.
Arriving officers found a man holding a knife to a woman's throat and eventually shot him, according to reports from the scene.
The woman may have suffered cuts to her hands and throat, but was expected to make a full recovery, authorities said.
KCAL9 obtained cell phone video of the shooting.
