A man died Tuesday night after crashing into a pylon supporting the Burbank Boulevard overpass on the 405 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
LAFD spokesman Cecil Manresa said firefighters got the call at 7:21 p.m., likely from a passing motorist, about an adult male driver who had crashed while traveling southbound on the 405 Freeway.
Manresa told Patch firefighters extricated the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The southbound 405 Freeway was shut down when firefighters first responded. As of 8:30 p.m., one southbound lane had been reopened.
A motorist exiting the freeway at Burbank Boulevard told Patch that it had taken her an hour to get from the Victory Boulevard exit to the Burbank exit.
All lanes were reopened close to 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to Manresa, the cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Patch will keep you updated as the story develops.
