Police Looking for Leads in Home Invasion Robbery

Detectives believe the house was chosen at random.

Detectives working in Sherman Oaks are looking for leads in the home invasion robbery where a couple were terrorized and robbed Monday evening in the 4900 block of Matilija Avenue.

The robbers forced their way into the home after inducing the couple to open the door by telling them a package had arrived, police said.

"We don't think they were specifically targeted," said Detective Glenn O'Shea of the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Division." It looks like they kept knocking on doors until somebody opened it and they forced their way into the house," O'Shea told Sherman Oaks Patch.

The man who lives at the home was beaten about the head, bound with zip ties and placed in a closet; while the woman, who was not bound, fled to a bathroom, police said. Both victims are in their 60s, police said.

The man suffered a cut to his head, but did not require hospital treatment, O'Shea said.

After ransacking the home the robbers got away with a still-undetermined amount of cash and jewelry, added O'Shea.

"It looks like the house was chosen at random," said O' Shea. "It's not clear why this home was picked,"  he added.

Police say this time of year people are getting lots of packages, "It's important to check who is at the door before opening it," added O'Shea.
