Mayor Appoints Sherman Oaks Doctor to City's Fire and Police Pension Board

Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) Monday announced that Dr. Pedram Salimpour, President-Elect of LACMA, has been selected by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to join the City’s Board of Fire and Police Pension Commissioners for the term ending June 30, 2013 and for a subsequent term ending June 30, 2018.

“Dr. Salimpour’s experience, expertise and empathy will be valuable in helping the board continue to provide strong leadership that will be in the best interest of those on the front lines of public safety, the men and women of fire and police,” said Mayor Villaraigosa.

“I am honored to be appointed by the Mayor and will work diligently to provide my best counsel to ensure that the financial health of the pension and retirement system is strong and sustainable for years to come,” said Dr. Salimpour.

The nine-member board has the primary responsibility of administering the pension and benefits system for the city’s 25,000 current and retired public safety employees. The board also has fiduciary duty over the assets and various financial investments of the $16 billion system, which is one of the largest pension funds in the United States.

“Dr. Salimpour has a tremendous record of innovation and leadership in the science and business of medicine, in his community and at the Los Angeles County Medical Association, where he has helped lead our organization into a new era of greater civic engagement,” said Rocky Delgadillo, CEO of LACMA. “His guidance as a member of the Board of Fire and Police Pension Commissioners will be a great service to the city and the people of Los Angeles.”

Dr. Salimpour is a pediatrician at Salimpour Pediatric Medical Group in Sherman Oaks, and is CEO and co-founder of Champion Health Enterprises, a company focused on the creation of novel health ecosystems for Native American tribes and their business entities. He also is president and co-founder of CareNex Health Services, a healthcare technology and client-services organization specializing in neonatal and perinatal disease management programs with presence in more than 40 percent of the neonatal intensive care units in the United States. 

Dr. Salimpour is an active member of the medical community. In addition to his board seat at LACMA, he is a member of the board of directors of Boston University School of Medicine and the UCLA School of Public Health and is a founding board member of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Center on Aging at San Diego State University and an associate professor of pediatrics at the UC Riverside School of Medicine.
