Midnight 'Potter' Screenings Sold Out at ArcLight

Tickets are available for weekend shows. Sherman Oaks theater expects huge local turnout as 'Carmageddon' keeps residents close to home.

All 16 movie theaters at the ArcLight Sherman Oaks will be showing the final installment of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, beginning at midnight Thursday.

"All 16 screens are sold out for the midnight show," said Kate McMains, spokeswoman for ArcLight Sherman Oaks.

There will also be a screening at 2:45 a.m.

With many Valley residents expected to stick close to home because of the 405 Freeway shutdown, the theaters anticipate doing a booming business this weekend.

"We do have bike racks in case people want to avoid driving," McMains said.

On Saturday, the film will be shown on five screens, and there are seats available that can be purchased online at ArcLight Sherman Oaks.

"We expect large crowds for the opening of this film, but it remains to be seen if Harry Potter will attract more customers than our biggest hit ever, which was The Dark Knight," McMains said.

Ticket prices range from $10.75 for children to $14.75 for adults.

The Warner Bros. movie is the final installment of the popular boy-wizard series, and signs bearing the slogan "It All Ends Here" dot the San Fernando Valley, including along Ventura Boulevard and at Warner Bros. studio in Burbank.

At the Chinese Theatre on Thursday, hard-core fans can view Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, showing at 7 p.m., then attend the midnight showing of Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The new release will also play at three of the six multiplex theaters at 12:15 a.m.

Two midnight shows are scheduled for the Grove in Hollywood, in Burbank, Glendale and Century City. Fandango is selling tickets for venues in Santa Monica, Marina del Rey and other places in Los Angeles.

The premiere in London will be streamed live on YouTube. For more information about the movie, see the official website.
