Police Seeking Help in Murder of 17-Year-Old at Social Media Party

Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Division are asking for the public's assistance in finding out who was responsible for the death of a 17-year-old boy at a party where, according to one detective, everyone had been invited by social media.

Detective John Dunlop expressed the hope that some of those who attended the party might have seen or heard something and perhaps videotaped or photographed something.

The party occurred on Feb. 17 near Sherman Way and Haskell Avenue in Van Nuys, Dunlop said. At a news conference today, he said that composite drawings should soon be available on the LAPD's website.

According to Dunlop, Roberto Rizo, the victim, was involved in a confrontation between his group and another group over the sale of nitrous oxide, a popular drug used at teenage parties. He said that as far as he knows, Rizo was not a gang member.

Anyone with information was asked to call Dunlop at (818) 374-7720.
