Both Skirball and Getty to Close During 405 Shutdown

Public safety cited as popular attractions plan to close during mid-July's freeway shutdown.

The Skirball Cultural Center and the Getty Center in Los Angeles are usually beehives of activity on summer weekends, but with the planned shutdown of the 405 Freeway during July 16-17, the two popular attractions have decided to close their doors.

According to the getty.edu website, the Getty Center will be open July 15, prior to the closure; it will close July 16-18 for the weekend, and reopen to visitors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19. The museum is normally closed on Mondays.

In the accompanying video interview with Sherman Oaks Patch, Skirball Manager Ben Elisondo talked about plans to close the cultural center during the July 16-17 weekend, which he saw as a matter of public safety.
