Kids Yoga

Why Go: This class for children ages 3 – 6 years old focuses on maintaining flexibility, conscious breathing, and relaxation. During the class, the children also enjoy playful poses and storytelling.

Thursday Night Comedy

Where/When: Rocco’s Tavern, 12514 Ventura Blvd., Studio City; 10 p.m.

Why Go: Laughter is a great way to relax, let go of stress, and have a good time and tonight, comedians from all over, including The Comedy Store, Comedy Central, and Comics Unleashed, will be performing.

FRIDAY

TGIF Teen Movie: Like Crazy

Where/When: North Hollywood Library, 5211 Tujunga Ave., North Hollywood; 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Love can make anyone feel a little crazy at times, and this particular story follows a British college student who falls for an American, and then gets separated from him and has to go back to England. 

Pricing: Free. Rated PG-13. 90 minutes.

 

NoHo Dine-Out Friday Nights

Where/When: 11458 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood; 5:30 – 9 p.m.

Why Go: Tonight is full of diverse food, live entertainment, shopping, and even pet adoption. Some of the food trucks appearing this evening will be B&R Burger Truck, Curbside Craving, Gravy Train, Gringos Tacos, and Ta Bom. Live music will be provided by David Kaufman and Sheabdra Michelle. Specialty vendors include Rok By Rocha, 7 Thirty Jewelry, and Deadcelebritee Shirts.

The Avengers

Why Go: Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson, the story revolves around a team of superheroes that battle Loki and his army in order to save the Earth. 

Pricing: Adults $14.75, Children $11, Seniors $12.50. Pricing changes for the 3D showings – Adults $18.25, Children $13, Seniors $16.  Rated PG-13. 143 minutes.

 

Reflections on Sinatra: The Jazz Allstars

Where/When: Vitello’s Jazz & Supper Club, 4349 Tujunga Ave., Studio City; 8 p.m.

Why Go: For one night only, the Jazz Allstars will be playing a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra. So if you’re a fan of jazz and Frank Sinatra, then this is definitely the weekend event for you. Some of the talented musicians appearing at Vitello’s tonight will include Ralph Penland (drums), Jim Hughart (bass), Ron Anthony (guitar), and Llew Matthews on the piano.

Cardio Body Fitness

Why Go: Taught by Jessyca Brown, this one hour Jazz Dance Workout will wake your body up nice and early so that you become energized for the rest of the day.

Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

Where/When: Universal CityWalk, 5 Towers, 100 Universal Plaza, Universal City; all day

Why Go: Celebrate Cinco De Mayo at CityWalk today, where there will be various activities including Mariachi music and even a Mariachi Singing Contest. So head on over for a day full of live music and entertainment.

Game Day

Why Go: Every month the Studio City Library has a game day, and today you can bring the entire family and put together puzzles, build Lego structures, and play various games together.

Dig It!

Where/When: Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles; 10 a.m.

Why Go: At this simulated archaeological dig, children can sift and sort through the sand to discover artifacts. They can then weigh and examine their findings, analyze various clues, and work with staff to put together ancient puzzles.

Relax Deeply

Dear Hollietiger, CHAMPSFEST2013 was an awesome experience for my child. She was there all day andRead More had the best time. When I dropped her off I saw a slew of security personnel checking bags and wanding. She told me security was there immediately and a medic on hand. Her friend is fine and is going to school Monday morning. The hammer was from a vendor. The kid could have grabbed one of the stakes from a tent or a chair. Things happen, but I trust that the school and the administrators did the right thing. It's very counter productive and irresponsible to write things when you don't know the facts. I will support and trust CHAMPS and my daughter is already looking forward to next years CHAMPSFEST.

First of all, I don't know where your child got his information but he is quite uninformed. HeRead More obviously was believing all the rumors spreading at then end of the event. The victim's skull WAS NOT "cracked open and ... bleeding everywhere." CHAMPSFEST 2013 was a public event, therefore open to the PUBLIC. CHAMPS (the school) has no control of mental competency of attendants from other schools. Security was there in droves to protect the entire venue. As far as nothing being reported that is also FALSE. The kid was NOT taken away in handcuffs. Police were there and it is confidential information that was not released to the general population and is not a matter of public record. Second of all, the resources provided by the city were there as a backup (you mentioned "2 ambulances, police fire trucks... Not really sure what police fire trucks are but that's besides the point). We wanted to make sure that in this case of emergency all bases were covered and the safety of the victim was going to be treated properly. Next time you hear about an incident, I would consider the reputation of the people who worked so hard to put on the event and let them handle the situation before posting incorrect information to the entire community.
