Church Helping Homeless Children in the Valley

Here is a message about a large group of children in the Valley who have been forced to live in cars, because their families lost homes in foreclosures.

This is a story about a church in the West San Fernando Valley that discovered more than 50 children in a Reseda school had been forced out of their homes because of foreclosures, and some of these kids were now living in cars.

On Sunday, December 18, Project Hope in Winnetka will be collecting essentials that these children need, things like blankets, jackets, clothing, and food. The Los Angeles Police Department and Winnetka City Council are sponsoring the event which will be held at  Winnetka Scool, 8240 Winnetka Avenue.Sherman Oaks Patch was notified of this outpouring of holiday spirit by Dalia Charbel Bergmann.

Wanted to let you know about Project Hope, one of our co-workers here in our office brought to our attention. Since there isn’t a Patch in Winnetka, I thought I’d reach out to our local Valley Patch communities to see if there is any way we could help spread the word.

Last week, her husband, who is a local church Pastor in Winnetka, was alerted by the Winnetka City Council that 52 children at their local elementary school, Limerick Elementary, have recently lost their homes in the foreclosure crisis and are living out of their cars or in one rooms with extended family members.  One child showed up at school wearing a sheet.  In response to this, their Church is partnering with the Winnetka City Council and Local police departments to do what little we can this holiday season to try to fill their needs.  Their biggest needs are for blankets, jackets, clothing, shoes and food.  They’re calling it “Project Hope” and will be inviting them all to a Banquet this Sunday, 12/18, where they will distribute the items they’ve been able to collect.
