Marla Schulman, Neighbor

Marla is an award-winning writer/producer/director who has worked in all areas of television, creating and developing reality programing, covering news and entertainment, to conceptualizing and executing advertising, marketing and promotion campaigns for the major television networks, corporations and local TV stations.  

For almost ten years, Marla was at Fox11/My13 Los Angeles, where she conceived, produced and directed award-winning promotional spots and campaigns (one even received an Emmy nomination!) as well as worked closely with the News department creating compelling on-air promotion and contributing to their enterprise stories.  But in 2009, a freak back injury put her flat on her back and armed with her laptop she turned to FaceBook and Twitter as a source of comfort and connection with the outside world.  Inspired by the power of these social media tools, she began a year long sabbatical to immerse herself in all things social media, learning about tools, best practices and most of all its culture and power.

About the same time and with her sons officially out her house, she started writing a blog, Life After Kids,  to express and deal with her feelings of becoming a mid-life, empty-nester and to find and support others dealing with the same issues.  Soon after, through her newly created connections in social media, she was approached by Stephanie Piche, CEO of Mingle Media TV,  an online entertainment network with over  250,000 viewers a month, to start a weekly live web series based on her blog.  After balking about being an "on-camera" personality after so many years behind the lens, she finally said yes on on June 14, 2010, Life After Kids TV, was launched.  Nowadays, LAKTV is on Thursdays at 5pm PDT and every week, Marla brings on guests to educate, entertain, and inspire all adults, not just those who've been parents, to follow their bliss, find new ways to reinvent themselves and ways to insure they make the second-act of their lives their very best.

In addition to her show, Marla follows her bliss wearing a couture gown reporting from the red carpet of a celebrity event, or on the floor of NAB talking tech with CEO's and geeks or running Dvin/Ideas,  a transmedia agency offering a full menu services using both traditional and social media tools.

Her bliss also includes watching her two sons, Zachary an aspiring filmmaker and Joshua, a musician, grow into amazing men, snuggling with her three furbabies, writing and vlogging to change the world and traveling to find her next great glass of red wine!
