Hollywood + Tech make Alice Smile!

Judy Santos met with Alice Fuller, Principal Consultant of Sheer Social, after her successful workshop “Creating and Managing a WINNING online presence,” recently held at OfficeSlice, the first coworking space in the San Fernando Valley.

Alice Fuller is in it to win it!  A resident of the San Fernando Valley, she is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina.  Alice received her B.A. from Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh but loves, loves, loves the entertainment industry and all things tech.  She moved west to pursue her love of the entertainment industry over 10 years ago, “I knew I was going to work in television since I was a kid.   I was a television geek kid.  I loved the live performance shows, like the Grammy’s and the Oscar’s.”  Alice has been successful in pursuing her dream of working in Hollywood, creating and producing television programming, as well as working on the Oscar’s and Grammy’s that she loved as a kid to watch.  But now, Alice is branching out.  She has started her own company, Sheer Social.

Alice describes herself as a “geek undercover in love with titanium Mac daddies with artificial intelligence in search of social media adventures through Sheer Social.”  Her love of all things tech, has been the basis for branching out from producing and creating television to social media.  Her enthusiasm for social media, and communication makes her a natural at producing and creating engaging online content and presence that is clear and authentic.  Though social media is not this author’s favorite pastime, Alice pulled back the curtain and clarified the importance of an engaging, online presence and reminded us, “you’re telling a story, and finding those interesting facts or traits that connect with people will get you more engagement.”

Alice has fulfilled her dream of working on those big carpet events that enthralled her as a kid, so what is the secret to her success? The secret is not a secret, “just keep pushing, keep trying,” she says.   Though Alice loves her computer, and despite “how well you can do things on line, on a computer, your success is equally important to building relationships offline.”  Alice does this by creating a solid presence online to attract potential new business relationships, and offline with an engaging smile, deep intelligence,  great sense of humor and the patience to discuss in detail, social media and what you need to know, how to tell stories and the steps needed to follow in order to grow your business.

Helping people on how they can “do social media marketing better,” explaining the ins and outs, dispelling the myths, and separating facts from fiction is Alice’s specialty.  She frowns on the current thought trend that social media is a “time suck.”  “You have to know how to get in, get your point across, and then get out quickly.”

How did Alice get in to social media?  Social media combines Alice’s passions “for strong visual content and social networking in one environment.”  “I began as an entertainment blogger, covering Hollywood events, celebrities, red carpet, and other high profile events.  Soon, people began asking me to blog for them professionally. I then began to see the need for more assistance and services in social media.” Alice explained that as social media has exploded on the scene, it is incredibly important for any business, except for maybe heart surgeons, to have a positive presence online.  Heart surgeons are open to tweeting after the surgery is done!  And we stress after!

Alice makes social media look easy, and easy to keep up with.  Her favorite aspect about social media is that you can connect with people locally and globally through technology, “that’s what it’s for!”

Her favorite thing to do in the Valley, is “to stay cool,” she chuckled.  Her favorite spot in the valley is the library, “any library.” She also enjoys visiting the Xen Lounge on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.  Alice enjoys reading, movies, creative writing, live music, and all forms of dancing.  Alice really enjoys the television series, “Scandal.”
