Sherman Oaks Firefighters Remember 9/11 and Arizona First Responders

The tributes at the Sherman Oaks Los Angeles Fire Station 88 were not only for the brave firefighters responding to the World Trade Center on 9/11 but also the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona.

"I was honored to participate in the 9/11 Memorial Service," said Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch Englander.
The theme for the Sherman Oaks memorial was "In Tribute to the Victims, Families and All First Responders…NEVER FORGET TWELVE YEARS LATER” and guests included the Los Angeles City Fire Chief, Los Angeles City Fire Chaplain, Members of US&R CA-Task Force-1, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Brad Burlingame, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, Council member Tom LaBonge, California Assembly member Adrin Nazarian, Boy Scouts Color Guard, RiverOaks Chorus and others.
The memorial was started in 2002 when Sherman Oaks business people and residents Carrie Konjoyan and long time friends Joe and Debbie Lanza decided to create the memorial at Sherman Oaks, Fire Station 88 located at 5101 North Sepulveda Blvd. In the center of the fountain in front of the fire station permanently displayed is a big piece of steel beam from the World Trade Center. There are local hero’s based at the fire station which are members of the stations Elite Urban Search and Rescue team which responds to many of the nations biggest disasters, and they spent days at Ground Zero looking for survivors.
