Cheap Customer Humor

How cheap will customers get? Read this if you want a laugh!

Vikki here, from Flam's Lock and Key, but not with a security-related story this week. Not every blog has to be industry relevant.

Sometimes a good, old-fashioned laugh is good for the soul, so I thought I would share the following story.

About two weeks ago, a customer called and asked for a quote from Flam's to re-key the lock on his front door. He only wanted to use us because he trusted us and did not want a stranger handing him his new key, but he thought our service call was a bit steep for him. We asked if he was handy and if he could take off his lock and bring it into the shop to be re-keyed. That would save him the cost of a service call.

He said he was 'very' handy and liked the idea.

So here is the funny part: about two hours later, we see him and his friend carrying in the entire damn door, one on each end, bumping it against the walls of our narrow hallway, chipping the paint and denting the walls. Then they laid this huge door on top of our pristine formica counter and chipped it in two places.

When they caught their breath, they said it was easier to take the door off the hinges than to remove the lock. There was not a soul in the shop, including them, who could not stop laughing, as this was a first.

It was also a very expensive re-key for him because the repairs and repaint cost him over $250, which he paid with no complaint, only apologies. He said he would never complain about our trip charges again.

This was also a customer that rocked, but I have other funny 'cheap' customer stories to share along the way.

If you are in business and have these funny stories, please share. We all need a smile.

Yours in Security,

Vikki Flam

Never underestimate the power of American Ingenuity. Thankfully, it wasn't a garage door.

People amaze me. You want it done right you usually have to pay a bit more. Cheap and good DO NOT go together, ever.
Thanks for even more humor Gerald!
Thanks for responding Paul.

Where was this?

I was stopped coming out of the neighborhood by police. They said they were looking for a whiteRead More male, 5'10 with a tan shirt on who they were chasing in a car. He apparently dumped the car near Greenleaf and Davana Terrace and fled in the neighborhood. Not sure what he did or if they caught him.

I have photos of the 4 or 5 armed officers with their dog in tow in my backyard. For some reason IRead More couldn't upload the pix. The streets were blocked off by lapd cars south of Ventura, at Hazeltine and Stansbury avenue. They made us stay inside for At least two hours. We never heard if they caught the tan shirt man or not. We felt well protected however
