NFL Star Hines Ward Held at Gunpoint by LAPD in North Hollywood after Mix-up over Stolen Car Report

The Dancing with the Stars contestant was riding in a car that had been reported stolen after it could not be found by a valet at a restaurant.

Pittsburgh Steelers star Hines Ward was removed by Los Angeles police from a car today that had been reported stolen a short time earlier by its owner, who had forgotten to cancel the stolen-vehicle report, authorities said.

The  Dancing with the Stars contestant was riding in a car that had been reported stolen after it could not be found by a valet at a restaurant, Los Angeles police Sgt. Mitzi Grasso said. The Honda Civic was then found.

"It was a misunderstanding," Ward''s representative, Andrew Ree, said in a statement released by Amy Astley of ABC Media Relations. "The police were
just doing their job. Apologies were made and Hines was very cooperative and
understanding. He is fine and it's over."

Police pulled the car over about 1:30 a.m. after noticing that it had been reported stolen. Officers determined that the woman driving the car owned it, and had forgotten to cancel the police report. There were no arrests.

According to media reports, police held Ward at gunpoint and handcuffed him while sorting out the stolen car report.

Ward is four-time Pro Bowl selection and was named the Super Bowl MVP in 2006.
