On January 5, the public will have an opportunity to hear candidates, including two members of congress try to answer these and other pressing questions facing Valley residents.

The Town Hall will be held at Westfield Promenade Mall, Warner Center from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the former Dick’s Sporting Goods location  Featured will be the four candidates running to fill the 30th congressional district seat: Representative Brad Sherman (D), Representative Howard Berman (D), Mark Reed (R) and Susan Shelley (R). The race has been intensified by the merger of Sherman’s 27th CD and Berman 28th CD seats following redistricting.

The new congressional district covers the Los Angeles City communities of Sherman Oaks , Studio City, Valley Village, Encino, and Lake Balboa, the western half of Van Nuys, Northridge, Granada Hills, Winnetka, Reseda, Tarzana, West Hills, Canoga Park, Chatsworth and Woodland Hills. It also includes the LA county communities of Calabasas, Hidden Hills and unincorporated sections of the county of bordering Ventura County. How does one get an invite to this debate? Vince Gilmore is also running in this election. According to the California Secretary of State's Office the candidates can't even file the paperwork and get petitions until December 30th. Vince Gilmore will be there anyways if not on stage in open debate then outside willing to answer any and all questions. As soon as Vince Gilmore officially files paperwork there will be no excuse to not include every candidate running. People please look into Vince Gilmore and take a look at the Youtube videos. There is a choice this time around.

Sure, since I have found no internet search of your chamber of commerce hosting a congressional debate or forum, and since it's well known in the valley that sherman's camp loathes any unsafe q&a venues (your filter provides that), I'd love to know how your chamber of commerce got so "lucky"? IF you want me, and I would imagine most voters who are aware of this race (specifically the Sherman teams negative machine), you have to tell me why I should attend? Or is this some BS stunt being pulled off by you and team sherman for his benefit?
trojan2002 December 26, 2011 at 11:51 PM
you have to go the sherman campaign and promise to spend time attacking Berman then you will be invited. Sherman's angle is he hasn't been there as long as Berman and he hasn't been part of the power base in DC. So vote for him because he'll still attend your kid's barmizvah before he gets an added dime returned from DC to our district.
Vince Gilmore December 27, 2011 at 04:08 AM
Both Republican candidates are alot like Berman and Sherman. Vince Gilmore will actually follow the Constitution and take the Oath of Office seriously. Just look at some of the Youtube videos and you will probably be on board.

Brad Sherman is one of the brightest lights in Congress. and he has more town halls than anyone else in Congress. He flies into his district almost every weekend and still makes it to the votes in Washington DC during the week. He is a workhorse. I wish he would join the House Progressive Caucus.
Sean McCarthy December 27, 2011 at 03:57 PM
Trojan2002: This should help you find your way to the Town Hall: http://woodlandhillscc.net/. Do you have a question for the candidates?
trojan2002 December 27, 2011 at 05:56 PM
I love that you don't address any of the questions I've raised.
Sean McCarthy December 27, 2011 at 08:06 PM
Do you assume that because USC plays UCLA at the Rose Bowl that the game is fixed? Likewise when UCLA plays USC at the Memorial Coliseum does it follow that the refs are in the tank for the Cardinal and Gold? You need to be more open minded. You will not find my name on anyone's endorsement list. What's more, whoever wins will be representing an area they have not represented before. It will be a whole new experience for all of us. I'll even ask your question if you can get past your skepticism
Vince Gilmore December 27, 2011 at 11:20 PM
Mr. McCarthy you forgot to add that Vince Gilmore did not get an invite. I think you may have left that out of the article on accident. Vince Gilmore is also running in this race and will be there on the 5th. If Vince Gilmore will be shut out of the debate and not allowed to participate then Vince Gilmore will be in the parking lot fielding any and all questions.
Vince Gilmore December 28, 2011 at 05:43 AM
Brad Sherman voted to kill Glass Steagall, he voted for the Futures Commodities Modernization Act, he voted for the Patriot Act, he voted for all of these illegal wars, he voted to keep America in the W.T.O., he voted for the National Defense Authorization Act and the list goes on and on and on. Please look into Vince Gilmore because Brad Sherman is part of the problem just like Berman, Reed and Shelley.

I cannot wait for this debate. I bet it will get national attention and show a national audience how great a congressman Sherman is!
trojan2002 December 30, 2011 at 02:27 PM
Sean you can try and spin this any which way you like, that's what you do for a living. But the fact that I have raised valid points for you to address, points that you have not addressed, is what makes me skeptical. Sherman does not, has never, answered the questions of consistuents outside a safe environment. He has never participated in a forum outside of a safe environment. Woodland hills has never hosted a forum for any position. Almost half the woodland hills board has endorsed Sherman. Why is your chamber so lucky now? How did it happen? If you or Nother woodland hills chamber person is picking the questions, how do we know it will be selected unaltered, how do we know you won't share them with sherman first? These are valid points that YOU need to address.
kenneth scalir December 31, 2011 at 03:27 AM
Michael Dukakis has just endorsed and will campaign for Brad Sherman! Hip hip hooray!
Sean McCarthy December 31, 2011 at 07:40 AM
Questions, questions plauging the minds of voters. Where are the questions?!!!
trojan2002 December 31, 2011 at 06:10 PM
I don't understand why you don't address any of the questions I have for you and your organization. Scared to answer? It's ok. We'll pretend like it never happened. By the way Sean, this is the Encino Patch and while Sherman represents a tiny tiny portion of Encino (and Woodland Hills) Berman represents most of Encino and Tarzana. Has your organization ever invited or dealt with Henry Waxman? He represents most of Woodland Hills. I ask because I find Sherman to be very deceiving. He spent the last 10 years touring the entire valley, areas out of his district (like woodland hills) campaigning instead of being a legislator. I know a lot of the chambers in the valley are in the tank for him, like yours, (all over his endorsement page) because he gets around giving out combs instead of doing his job. Meanwhile, Berman is endorsed mostly be almost all of the state's political leaders, residents, and non profit leaders. But back to you... keep ignoring my issues and hope I go away. You have already wasted away the scant credibility your organization had by ignoring my comments and questions.
Vince Gilmore January 01, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Mr. McCarthy i have a few questions for these so-called public servants. 1. Why do they all support the Patriot Act? 2. Why do the incumbants insist on voting for free trade deals and what do Reed and Shelley think about this terrible free trade problem? 3. Isnt voting yes on the recent N.D.A.A. Bill shredding our Constitution? 4. What do Reed and Shelley think of the N.D.A.A. Bill? 5. Why did Berman and Sherman vote to create the Super Congress? 6. what do Reed and Shelley think of this pathetic Super Congress? 7. Why is every other candidate exept Vince Gilmore opposed to our Constitution? 8. Why does every candidate exept Vince Gilmore support and call for unconstitutional wars?
Sean McCarthy January 01, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Vince: Thank you for your questions I will make sure they are asked, including: Support for or opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act, the Patriot Act and the Super Congress. Torjan2002, sorry but your questions are not substantive. Do you have any questions about issues effecting the district or national policy. I am ready to consider any of your substantive question recommendations. In the meanwhile, Happy New Year to one and all.
trojan2002 January 02, 2012 at 06:26 PM
You get a FAIL. I hope everyone else who attends reads through you and your organization for being a sherman shill.
Joe Gerrymandered January 02, 2012 at 09:50 PM
Heard there was to be a debate, did a google search for info and ended up on this blog. Sorry to see the "discussion" has been wholly consumed by two nudniks. At least one is an aspiring candidate. I'm at a loss regarding Mr. Trojan's obsessive motivation. In any case, Mr. McCarthy, I do have an actual question for Congressmen Berman and Sherman (sounds like a vaudeville act, no?) I well recall that close to ten years ago both congressmen voted for the Bush Iraq War Resolution. Approximately two-thirds of their Democratic House colleagues, and I suspect most of their own constituencies, saw through the sloppy intelligence and disinformation used as a pretext for this tragic misadventure. Not these two. Indeed, Mr. Berman was the enthusiastic "whip" leading the search for Democratic votes for the Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney debacle. Now, after $1 trillion, close to 4,500 American dead and over 32,000 wounded, and well over 100,000 Iraqi civilian casualties, I wonder if these two Representatives have misgivings over their initial judgment call on what was probably the most important foreign policy vote of their political careers. More to the point, how are we to be assured that the next time a jingoistic regime occupies the White House, these two won't again end up as complicit foot soldiers?
Sean McCarthy January 03, 2012 at 06:21 AM
Thank you for your question. You can be sure it will be asked.
trojan2002 January 03, 2012 at 02:35 PM
Well, since you felt it was necessary to take a shot at me..."jingoistic regime"? What exactly would you prefer? Something more pussy cat like than what we have now? It's funny how since 2009 there are have been more close calls than there were after 9/11 under that jingoistic regime. It's easy to look back years later and say oh you guys made a mistake while overlooking the facts and the emotions at the time.
trojan2002 January 05, 2012 at 02:40 PM
Sean, I know you won't disappoint and there will be lots of fun tongight... I'm sure your organization gave all of the questions being asked tonight to Sherman.
Vince Gilmore January 05, 2012 at 05:54 PM
Joe Gerrtmandered, not quite sure why I would be nudnick in your eyes. Please take a look at my website and youtube videos. Both Brad Sherman and Howard Berman have voted for evey single unconstitutional war and global police action. In fact Brad Sherman is very proud of the fact that he is pro-war. I was 23 years old when the Iraq war started and i knew full well even then that this war was based on lies and unconstitutional. There is no excuse for Brad Sherman's or Howard Berman's voting record. I know i am a political nobody as of now but if you will just take a look at my policies and views and take a look at a video or two I can all but guarantee that you will support me. Just look up Vince Gilmore and compare me to all the other candidates. Thanks Joe Gerrymandered, have a good day.
Vince Gilmore January 05, 2012 at 06:00 PM
Mr. McCarthy I think it would be interesting to ask the 4 candidates that were invited to this debate about Iran. What if anything do they plan to push for regarding Iran. On top of that since I am sure we would hear calls for pre-emptive strikes, I would like to know how and why the candidates think interfering in foriegn entanglements is Constitutional. Thank you Mr. McCarthy
Sean McCarthy January 05, 2012 at 08:59 PM
Vince: I want to assure you there was no intention to slight you by not including you this evening. I saw your web site but it included no contact information. Your call earlier today indicated another candidate forwarded your information. Your phone call to me today was our first direct contact. We do the best we can to include everyone we can. I even got a phone call from another gentleman who says he plans to file as a Republican but wanted to be included in the debate. I've neither heard from him before now nor been aware of his candidacy until this afternoon. I hope to meet you this evening. Certainly foreign conflicts will be examined. I appreciate your input.
Sean McCarthy January 05, 2012 at 09:05 PM
Trojan2002: I hope to see you this evening as well. Ask Mr. Sherman, Mr. Berman, Ms. Shelley and Mr. Reed if I gave them any of the questions in advance. I understand that you are skeptical and I can't do anything about that.
trojan2002 January 06, 2012 at 07:06 AM
Sean you did a good job, other than not introducing Berman as a ranking committee member, which is a big deal. I thought it was interesting that Sherman spent most of his time attacking Berman rather than talking about his accomplishments. Berman, on the other hand, spoke of all the things he has done. Sherman acted like reed in 2010. And Sherman and his team spent a lot of time complaining about reed back then. As Berman said, I also look forward tonshermans future career has a Hollywood stuntman in a few months.
Sean McCarthy January 06, 2012 at 07:55 AM
So how in the tank am I for Sherman?
trojan2002 January 06, 2012 at 01:42 PM
sean i said you did a good job. it doesn't mean your organization isn't and wasn't in the tank for sherman.
Sean McCarthy January 22, 2012 at 07:35 AM
I hope voters will keep a close watch as the helecopter restriction story unfolds. This is a big local issue that will heat up in the weeks and months leading to the June primary.
