CHAMPS Plans Eclectic Music Jam on May 18

The Van Nuys charter school will produce a 10-hour music festival to be held on the grounds of Milliken.

CHAMPSFEST 2013 is the exciting collaboration of students at the CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts – Multimedia and Performing and its award-winning Arts & Entertainment Radio (AER) radio station.

The fourth-annual all-ages music festival is being held on Saturday, May 18 at the field of Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks. Beginning at noon and closing at 10 p.m. it provides a wide array of entertainment for all tastes!

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a music fest with some of the best names in the L.A. beat scene”, CHAMPSFEST 2013, is set to be at the forefront of this years LA events. Attracting some of the biggest up-and-coming bands, rappers and DJs to hit the scene in the past twelve months the headliners include; Chris B, Jonwayne, IM5, Doll-Egirl, Djemba Djemba, Cherri Bomb, Charlie C.B. and Alastair. 

The 10-hour line-up includes notable CHAMPS acts including; Senior Citizen Society, Lazloh, Deep Fryd Dynamite, Rebecca Pitchon, E.V.S. and Sunday Postal Service.

In addition to music, a bevy of food trucks will be available from vendors including the Lobos Truck -- home of the infamous “wachos” (nachos meet waffle fries with every topping you can imagine), the converted school bus fondly known by foodies as the “Melt Bus”, Menchies, Antonio’s Pizzeria, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Kettle Popped.

CHAMPSFEST visitors will enjoy perusing an eclectic mix of local merchant pop-up boutiques featuring body art, face painting, nail art, color rub, accessories and clothing. In addition Operation Blankets of Love, 4Good, Providence Hospital Blood Donor Center and the California Highway Patrol will host informational booths.

Fun activities, such as a gigantic blow-up sports course, joust arena and bungee basketball, as well as midway games and opportunity drawings will be available throughout the day.

At least 1,000 visitors are expected to attend CHAMPSFEST 2013.

ABOUT AER: Adopted by the Grammy Foundation in 2011, CHAMPS Arts & Entertainment Radio (AER) radio station is the most listened to radio station on the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS), a network of over 45 mostly college radio stations in the US and abroad.
