Will Krekorian Run For City Attorney?

State Assemblyman and former L.A. City Council member Mike Feuer has also announced a candidacy for City Attorney.

is considering a run for Los Angeles City Attorney next March.

The Los Angeles Downtown News reported that on June 21, at a lunch hosted by the Los Angeles Current Affairs Forum at the Palm restaurant, Krekorian made the following statements:

  • “There are two lawyers on the city council, so obviously when an opportunity like this presents itself, as one of them, I have to take a look at it and I have to consider it.”
  • “I love what I do and especially now that I have this new assignment []. I’m very, very happy with my current position.”
  • “I haven’t closed the door [on running], let’s put it that way: Especially because circumstances continue to change surrounding that race in unexpected ways.”

The "unexpected circumstances" is likely a reference to current Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich finishing third in the race for Los Angeles County Attorney despite having the most money and name recognition. He has subsequently stated that he plans to seek another term as City Attorney.
