Neighborhood Council Fighting for 2012 Election

Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council President Jill Banks Barad is leading the fight to retain next year's council elections. Councils are offering to run the elections themselves.

The Los Angeles City Council is preparing to cancel the 2012 Neighborhood Council elections because of budget cuts, but councils are now seeking permission to run their own elections.

The City Clerk’s Office spends more than $1 million in even-numbered years to run elections for the Neighborhood Councils, which total 95 citywide. Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council President Jill Banks Barad talked about the issue before Monday night's meeting.
