Scenic Route Over the Hill During Carmageddon

Many people don't know about Franklin Canyon.

One of the best kept secrets when it comes to getting over the hill from Ventura Boulevard to Beverly Hills is the scenic route through Franklin Canyon Park.

You reach Franklin Canyon by heading south on Coldwater Canyon, when you reach Mulholland Drive, make a 45 degree right turn into a two lane road that leads down into the Canyon.

The trip will take you through 605 acres of wilderness, a quiet lake with fish, frogs, turtles, and several small ponds.

Franklin Canyon Park is often used for biking, hiking weddings, and picnics. But Park officials are well aware that Carmageddon may well send hordes of motorists into the Canyon.

"We will have extra park rangers on the road all weekend," said park manager Maribelle Franco.

"We expect there's going to be a big increase in traffic," she added.

"But remember the park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset, so people will not be able to use the route during the night."
