Koretz Backs Chabad

Although he told Patch he was concerned with neighborhood opposition to the Chabad construction, today he told the City Council Land Use Committee he had no objections to the development. Full council to vote Wednesday.

Koretz backed Chabad today.

Today he informed the Planning and Land Use [PLUM] committee of the City Council that he had no objections to the expansion.

His announcement triggered that committee to vote unanimously to move the project to a full vote of the council on Wednesday.

Last week, when asked for a statement in regard to the Chabad House development, he stated sensitivity to the concerns of the neighbors who have united to oppose this project.

"The size and scope of any large project is of valid concern to a neighborhood," he wrote in his statement to Patch, "which is why I believe community input is invaluable."

Chabad of North Hollywood is in the midst of building a 12,000-square-foot synagogue on their property at 13079 Chandler Blvd., which is in the heart of a residential Sherman Oaks neighborhood, and which has been the source of much ongoing controversy,

The City Council will vote on this issue tomorrow morning, June 27, 2012 at 10:00 am in the John Ferraro Council Chamber, Room 340 of City Hall.
