L.A. Arson Suspect Finally Caught

A 24-year-old man suspected of setting dozens of fires across Los Angeles, including , on New Year's weekend was charged Wednesday with  related to arson.

, was charged by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office with 28 counts of arson of property and nine counts of arson of an inhabited structure.

He made a brief court appearance Wednesday in which he repeatedly stood up, sat down and slumped his neck back as sheriff's deputies held him, but his arraignment was postponed to Jan. 24.

City Council Drafts New Ordinance On Neighborhood Council Elections

The Los Angeles City Council for running 90 Neighborhood Council elections this year from the city clerk to the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, amidst a warning there will be no money for the races.

On an 11-2 vote, the council agreed to instruct the City Attorney's Office to draft an ordinance to make the transfer of authority official.

Family's Sherman Oaks Home Badly Damaged By Fire

A firefighter was slightly injured in a that spread to the attic, where it burned for more than an hour, a city fire official said.

The fire was reported at 7:09 p.m. on Friday, at 5049 N. Matilija Ave., said Matt Spence of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
