Sherman Oaks Man is Rescued After Pool Jumping Injury

The man was jumping off cliffs at the Rock Pool area of Malibu Creek State Park.

A 23-year-old Sherman Oaks man injured his ankle and needed to be rescued while jumping off cliffs into water at the Rock Pool area of Malibu Creek State Park Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Malibu Search and Rescue Team responded to assist Los Angeles County Fire paramedics at the Calabasas site at about 4:58 p.m.

The victim possibly fractured his ankle when he hit the water, according to a press release issued by the Sheriff's Department. While paramedics attended to the fractured ankle, the Malibu SAR team hiked in to the location with a litter basket and litter wheel then loaded the man into the litter and hiked out of the location by SAR team members.

According to the sheriff's statement, rescues in the park’s Rock Pool area have increased over the last few years in part do to the abundance of videos posted on social media sites. 

“Thrill seekers are drawn to the cliffs above the Rock Pool water feature” said Malibu Sheriff’s Search and Rescue PIO Reserve Sergeant David Katz.”

The injured man was taken to West Hills Hospital, according to Katz.
