Sherman Oaks Galleria Fire Prompts Evacuation

Fire prompts partial evacuation after it broke out in a restaurant of the mall.

A non-injury fire in a restaurant's cooking ventilation system prompted a partial evacuation of the Sherman Oaks Galleria Thursday, authorities said.

The fire at 15300 W. Ventura Blvd., reported at 4:55 p.m., was held in check by automatic sprinklers, Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Some people at the mall self-evacuated when alarms sounded and strobe lights flashed, she said.

Firefighters were at the scene dealing with the water discharged by the sprinklers, Main said.

The fire broke out at an El Torito restaurant, according to a broadcast report.
