School Officer Who Faked His Own Shooting Is Sentenced

Phony report of shooting prompted a 10-hour manhunt in which an 8-square-mile area was cordoned off near Woodland Hills high school, and nine schools were locked down.

The Los Angeles Daily News reported Wednesday that Jeff Stenroos, a former school police officer at El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, was sentenced to two years in jail and five years' probation for faking his own shooting near the school.

During the non-jury trial, Stenroos was branded as a serial liar who told fellow officers he'd been shot near the school while wearing a bulletproof vest. The Jan. 19 incident triggered a 10-hour, $361,000 manhunt in which an 8-square-mile area was cordoned off and nine schools were locked down.
