Police Send Alert to Local Pharmacies

Message warns of recent robbery and attempted break-in at local pharmacies.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Division sent this message to pharmacies in the Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys area.

In the past two days, two pharmacies in the Sherman Oaks area have been the targets of burglars. On Wednesday, July 6, Capital Drugs, 4454 Van Nuys Blvd., was burglarized.

The robbers smashed the front glass door, then they broke the glass window leading to the back room where narcotics were kept. Oxycontin, along with several other narcotics, were taken.

The next day, July 7, at 3:20 a.m., an attempted burglary occurred at the Key Pharmacy, located at 12660 Riverside Dr.

Bolt cutters were used in a failed attempt to break into the front of the pharmacy. The lock held and the would-be burglars fled.

All pharmacies should have video surveillance cameras and audible alarms according to Los Angeles police detectives.
