Police today chased a motorist in a Mercedes-Benz from the Sherman Oaks area to Downey, where the man stopped and surrendered.

The chase began about 10:25 a.m. at Ventura and Sepulveda boulevards, where officers tried to stop the motorist for driving recklessly, said Los Angeles police Officer Sara Faden.

The pursuit ended about 25 minutes later, shortly after the suspect exited the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway at Lakewood Boulevard.

The man drove on surface streets for a few minutes, and then pulled up on a street where a woman was waving her arms. He got out of the car, and police ordered them both to lie on the ground, which they did.

The pair were taken into custody for questioning without further incident.
