Police Blotter: Thefts from Vehicles Most Common Crime

Many of the property crimes involve thefts from vehicles, police have been alerting residents not to leave valuables in cars, especially things that are in plain sight.

This week's rate of 4.4 crimes per 10,000 people in Sherman Oaks is higher than in nearby Studio City, Encino, Van Nuys and Valley Village, according to the figures compiled by the Los Angeles Times.

The population of Sherman Oaks is estimated to be slightly more than 65,000 residents according to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
