Man Shot in North Hollywood Parking Lot 6 or 7 Times in Gang-Related Shooting, Police Say

Neighbors report hearing shots around 4:50 a.m.

A man was shot six or seven times in the parking lot of an apartment building on the 7100 block of Ethel Avenue in North Hollywood around 4:50 a.m. Saturday, police said.

"[The victim] was hit numerous times. He is still alive and at a local hospital. He's a documented gang member," said Lt. Brian Wendling of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division.

Bullet casings were strewn around the lot and police are still trying to piece together what happened. The parking lot is in a residential area about one block off Sherman Way and is surrounded by many apartment buildings and homes.

"We have very limited information on the suspect. Right now we are following up on a couple of very, very loose leads. We haven't really established much as far as how the shooting took place," Wendling added.

Wendling also said they had no direct eye witnesses to the shooting, only people who heard the shots, came out and saw "certain things."
