A 22-year-old man struck by a hit-run driver while getting into his car at a Sherman Oaks valet parking stop early today has died, Los Angeles police officials said.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition with severe brain injuries following the incident at about 1:45 a.m. in front of the Vibe Cafe at Ventura Boulevard and Kester Avenue, said Sgt. Bill Kelly of LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

A vehicle described as a silver newer model Hyundai sedan going west on Ventura Boulevard, west of Kester Avenue, struck a parked Ford Focus as a parking valet was opening its door.
