LAPD Officers Kill Man Who Allegedly Threatens Them With a Gun
The deadly incident is the second officer-involved shooting in Van Nuys in 24 hours.
A man who approached Los Angeles Police Department officers with a gun was shot and killed Thursday by officers in Van Nuys.
Officers responded to a report of a man with a knife or machete who police said was threatening some construction workers near an apartment complex in the 13800 block of Oxnard Street, near Woodman Avenue.
Responding officers spoke to the man when a man in his 40s then approached officers with a gun and was fatally shot, Cmdr. Andy Smith said.

The shooting was reported about 1:30 p.m., Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera said.
The man's name was not released.

No other information was made available as the Force Investigation Division documents what happened. Oxnard Street was closed between Woodman and Hazeltine avenues to accommodate investigators.
The death was the second fatal officer-involved shooting in Van Nuys in less than 24 hours.
A car chase, in which the driver allegedly fired at police, ended near Vanowen Street and Orion Avenue about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, and police shot the 22-year-old man to death.
His name has not been made public.
