Jurors Hear From Man Accused of Attempting to Burglarize Paris Hilton's Home

The Prosecution Plays dvd of Detectives Interviewing Nathan Lee Parada

Day two of the trial, the court heard from the man accused of attempting to burglarize Paris Hilton's home. Prosecutors, in the Van Nuys courtroom, played a dvd of detectives interrogating Nathan Parada, 31, on August 24, 2010, the morning of his arrest.

On the dvd,  Parada described how he left the sober halfway house in Redlands where he had lived for the past two years. He spoke of his haphazard plan to ride a series of busses all night "out of boredom" with no destination in mind. He ended up in Hollywood, he said, living on the streets for several days. Parada said he eventually stopped on Sunset Blvd where he bought a map to the stars' homes. He also admited buying two knives, claiming they were "for self defense."

Parada said he walked to what he thought was Eddie Murphy's home then moved on to Hilton's house in Sherman Oaks. He says he got into her gated Mulholland Estates community by walking through the brush. Prada told investigators that he was "a little bit" of a Paris Hilton fan but denied that he wanted to meet her. He said he chose her home because she had money. "They're wealthy,' he said on dvd. "Her parents have money." He also said that he thought "it would be a fun thing to do."

Parada spoke of spending hours outside of Hilton's home during the night. Though he saw someone drive up and enter the house he still decided to attempt a break-in around 6am by trying to cut through a glass window with one of the knives which, he said, had a glass cutting tool.

In previous testimony, Hilton's boyfriend, Cy Waits described how he thwarted Parada's attempt by pulling a gun on Parada and forcing him to the ground till police arrived.

On the dvd, Parada told detectives that he didn't know what he would have done if he had found someone in the house. "Tie 'em up or something," he said. "I wouldn't hurt anybody."

Parada admitted to detectives that he is on medication for depression. His mother, a pretty blond woman, sat in court softly sobbing throughout the morning. She said she does not wish to speak at this point but added that "there are two sides to every story."

The court expects to hear Parada's side this afternoon when the defense presents it's case.
