Hit-and-Run Suspect Barricades Himself in Car for Standoff with Police in Sherman Oaks

LAPD officers were able to zap him with a stun gun and take the man into custody tonight.

A suspect in a hit-and-run crash who barricaded himself inside his car in Sherman Oaks after being chased by California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department officers was zapped with a stun gun and taken into custody tonight, but not before three CHP officers suffered minor cuts from broken glass, authorities said.

The suspect barricaded himself in his car in the 15200 block of Burbank Boulevard near Sepulveda Boulevard at around 6:30 p.m., according to Eric French of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Both the suspect and the injured officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, French said.

CHP Officer Alex Rubio said the suspect fled the scene of the crash on Hartsook Street near Columbus Avenue after officers arrived and was stopped by a PIT maneuver about 15 minutes after the chase began.
