Fire Department Cuts Would Jeopardize Public Safety, Residents Warned

Mayor's proposed budget cuts reportedly would reduce the number of engine companies, ambulances, firefighter deployments across L.A.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials are warning residents of Sherman Oaks and across the San Fernando Valley that major cuts in the Fire Department's budget, proposed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, would jeopardize public safety.

The proposed reductions in the Fire Department budget, now being considered by the Los Angeles City Council, would save the city more than $50 million next year, it has been estimated.

The budget cuts reportedly would reduce the number of engine companies, ambulances and firefighter deployments.
