Daytime Burglaries Hit Residential Neighborhood in Sherman Oaks

Police investigate two burglaries committed around the corner from each other.

Neighborhood Watch captain Karen Cini of North Sherman Oaks is alerting residents in her area that two daytime home burglaries have occurred there during the past week.

The two burglaries happened on Tuesday and Wednesday. The families who were victimized lived around the corner from each other.

The Tuesday incident occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. in the 14300 block of Martha Street, when the residents were not home, according to police investigating the crime.

"The burglars entered the residence via a rear window, the home was ransacked, jewelry and electronics were taken," said Senior Lead Officer Anthony Cabunoc of the Los Angeles Police Department. "The suspect exited the front door and a witness reported seeing a newer-model black BMW parked in front of the house with a partial plate 5JN---.

Cabunoc said two males seen in the car "may be the same suspects involved in other burglaries in the area."

The Wednesday burglary occurred around the corner in the 14400 block of Collins Street, between 9 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., police reported.

"The burglars pried open a side yard window and ransacked the residence; jewelry and electronics were also stolen from the house. No witnesses or leads in this incident," Cabunoc said.

Cini is reminding residents of in her watch area north of the Ventura (101) Freeway to call 911 if they witness a crime in progress, or even if they observe suspicious behavior.

"Be aware of what's going on around you," Cini urged.
