UPDATE: Nothing Dangerous in Suspicious Backpack in Studio City, Streets Open

Police were at Moorpark between Laurelgrove and Whitsett. Streets are closed, but no evacuations were ordered.

A bomb squad was sent Thursday morning to remove a "suspicious backpack" found on a sidewalk in front of a church in the 12000 block of Moorpark Street in studio City, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said they were alerted to the incident because it was unusual because that an unidentified person drove up to the location and placed a backpack in the area. The package did not appear to be a threat to the church, which is located at Rhodes and Moorpark, said LAPD Sgt. Kent Pollard.

No evacuations were ordered, according to police.

Traffic was backed up in all directions and diverted off Moorpark for about four hours. By noon, streets were opened again.

Local resident Samantha Voisin asked, "Do you know what is happening on Moorpark between Laurelgrove and Whitsett? I live on Laurelgrove right by Moorpark and there is police tape and police cars blocking off the road."

Local resident Peggy Patterson reported, "They have Moorpark closed off between Shadyglade and Whitsett. Someone reported an unidentified backpack in front of the Unitarian Church. Bomb squad is on site!"

This is the second time a suspicious package was found near the church.

This is a joke. Why has the PD called in the Calvary? Babysitting the neighborhood is nice, contesting traffic is even better. Pray to god there isn't a real emergency today.

Why is this happening again?? They clearly need to set up some form of security at the church. This is a family neighborhood located in walking distance of two parks and the library. It is very frustrating, the flood of people chain smoking all the way out to the street and leaving their cig butts everywhere ALL day and loitering up and down the streets and into the neighborhoods. Get Security and clean up!!
