UPDATE: Lanes Re-Opened at 10 p.m.—Big Rig Crash Slows Traffic on I-5

As of 8 p.m., only a few lanes have reopened and traffic remains slow along the I-5 in both directions.

UPDATE: All lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway that were closed because
of a collision involving a big rig and at least two other vehicles have been
reopened, KCAL9 reports.

A big rig and at least two other vehicles were involved in a collision on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway today that caused a closure of all lanes and severe congestion.

The driver apparently lost control of the tanker, which slid, then crashed through the center divider into the northbound side of the freeway, spilling diesel fuel onto the lanes, NBC4 reported.

Initially, all northbound and southbound lanes in the area were closed, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Cracraft, but at least one right southbound lane was reopened around 5:45 p.m.

Traffic could be seen backed up for miles, even past the Ventura (134) Freeway interchange, NBC4 reported. Some motorists used an off-ramp at Hollywood Way under construction  to escape the traffic backup.

The crash was reported at 4:57 p.m. at Buena Vista Street, Cracraft said.

It was unknown if anyone was injured in the crash.
