'America's Most Wanted' Suspect Fighting Extradition

A suspect in a 2009 Sherman Oaks slaying, the son of former Angels baseball player Daryl Sconiers is in jail in Arizona.

Daryl Sconiers Jr., the son of former Los Angeles Angels slugger Daryl Sconiers, is refusing extradition to Los Angeles to face charges in a March 2009 killing in  Sherman Oaks.

Sconiers Jr. was arrested in Tempe, AZ, on a routine traffic stop, where officers said the driver's license he was using appeared to be a false document. After taking him into custody, Tempe police discovered that Sconiers was wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with the killing of 31-year-old Brian Caulfield in a suspected home invasion case. Police say the victim was shot multiple times at point-blank range

Caulfield was on the phone with his mother when he was shot, according to detectives who claim that his mother heard the the shots fired over the telephone. Caulfield was wearing handcuffs when he was found dead at the scene, police said.

Police claim Caulfield was a known marijuana dealer who had previously done business with the suspects. Marijuana and cash reportedly were found at the apartment.

All three suspects were later identified through a surveillance video taken at the apartment complex. One suspect, Kenyon Aikens, remains at large. Another suspect, Marquise Edwards, turned himself in to police shortly after the killing. He was aquitted of all charges in the fall of 2009.

The television program America's Most Wanted did a segment on the killing, pointing out that one of the suspects was the son of former Angels player Daryl Sconiers, who starred for the team in the 1980s.

Detectives in Tempe told Sherman Oaks Patch that Daryl Sconiers Jr. is refusing to  say anything, and he is fighting extradition to Los Angeles.

LAPD homicide detectives said arrangements were being made to hold an extradition hearing in Arizona. No date has been scheduled.
