It took nearly 100 firefighters just over one hour to knock down the blaze, he said.

Conditions deteriorated rapidly and firefighters were ordered out of the structure at one point, Scott said.

Arriving firefighters found one room ablaze in the house, which had two stories below ground level. All three floors of the home were extensively damaged, Scott said.

Several arson investigators were combing through debris to determine what caused the fire, he said.

Scott said the estimate loss of the fire was $180,000 to the structure and $80,000 to its contents. A cause of the fire was still under investigation.
