2 Firebugs Hunted on Ventura Boulevard

Six rubbish fires were reported in little more than an hour over several blocks of Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks Wednesday night and police and fire department arson investigators were seeking two possible suspects who may have set the blazes, authorities said.

The fires were reported between 8:15 p.m. and 9:32 p.m. between Coldwater Canyon and Sunnyslope avenues, said Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A fire reported at 8:53 p.m. at 13912 Ventura Blvd., spread to the exteriors of a one-story commercial building and a two-story apartment building before being put out 17 minutes later by 35 firefighters, Main said.

Police and fire department arson investigators were seeking two possible suspects, both males, in connection with the fires, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Sally Madera.

One suspect, who may have been on a bicycle or on foot, was said to be around six feet tall and heavy set and the other was described as in his 50s, Madera said.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the blazes.
