How to Be Safe, and Safe Places to Go for Halloween Fun

Sherman Oaks has a lot of things to do that won't be too dangerous.

Halloween's supposed to be a fun, candy and costume-filled night. But according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Oct. 31 is actually the deadliest night of the year for pedestrians.

With so many trick or treaters, the number of deaths among young pedestrians isfour times higher on Halloween evening (4-10 pm) than any other night of the year.

EmergencyLink hopes everyone has a safe and happy Halloween. But to do that, it's important to be prepared. What if your child gets separated from you? How will they be identified, at night in costume? What if there’s an accident?

Also, to prepare for Halloween – and the other 364 days of the year – families should sign up for EmergencyLink. CEO Michael Soenen explains how the site can help in any scary situation:

  • ·         Your child is trick-or-treating: Every EmergencyLink member receives complimentary account ID tags and cards. In this case, tie your child’s ID tags onto their costume, the lace of their tennis shoe, backpack, etc. to make sure their information is on them whether you’re with them or not.
  • ·         Your child is in an accident without you: First responders are trained to locate the EmergencyLink ID card/tag and call EmergencyLink as instructed. EmergencyLink provides the first responder with your child’s emergency medical information and contacts you immediately.
  • ·         Your child is missing: You can quickly create a Missing Person report and forward it to the police. The police can immediately act on the information maximizing their chances of locating your child quickly and safely.
  • ·         Your niece/nephew/etc. is in an accident: If your family member is an EmergencyLink Member and is "sharing" their info with you, you can access their emergency medical information (allergies, medications, medical insurance) and forward them to the first responder instantly.
  • ·         Your child is away at college: Halloween is one of the biggest party nights of the year. Make your son/daughter and their friends agree to share their emergency contact information with each other. If there is an emergency situation, the group has the information needed to reach each other’s emergency contacts.

Signing up is quick and easy via the EmergencyLink website: https://www.emergencylink.com/ice/register, and more information is below. Please let me know if I can connect you with Michael Soenen, EmergencyLink CEO, for more information on the company and how it’s transforming the way people prepare for emergencies.
