A View from Left Field- Mitt Romney, You Can't Have It Both Ways

Mitt Romney, you can't have it both ways!

On an obsessive and continuing basis, Mitt Romney, the presumed Republican choice for standard bearer in November’s Presidential Election, has savaged President Obama for months on his inability to create more jobs. Now, the “Mitt-ster” attacks the president for rejoicing on the one year anniversary of the campaign that ended the life of Osama bin Laden.

Well, Mr. Romney, you can’t have it both ways. If you subscribe to the principal that the president’s responsible for everything that happens under his watch, and you target him for things you think he did wrong, he should be allowed to crow about his acknowledged achievements. Besides, on the one year anniversary of Bin Laden’s departure from this earth, what were you doing in a fire station in New York City with Rudy Giuliani, basking in reflected glory?

If you look at the facts, President Obama inherited an economy already in recession.  While improvement still needs to be done, all signs are showing that life is returning to normal. The housing market is beginning to show an up tick, the stock market is soaring, manufacturing jobs are coming back to America, the American Auto Industry has experienced a renaissance, and all this without any help from a do-nothing Republican Congress.

Back to the late Osama bin Laden. George Bush, when asked during his presidency about the perpetrator on 9-11, said, “He didn’t pay him much mind.” Thankfully, President Obama did. Due to his bold thinking and determination, the president stayed the course, tracked down bin Laden and brought him a swift dose of justice.  Militarily, President Obama works by consensus with friendly nations, instead of as a rogue operative forcing coalitions on the “willing.”

Mitt talks a good game, but is so out of touch with the 99% of us. It’s no wonder that Republicans are having a tough time looking to him for leadership. He’s too busy counting how many Cadillacs he owns, instead of coming to grips with our national problems. Second guessing President Obama is one thing; coming up with workable solutions is another.

Mitt Romney opposed the bailout of the auto industry and opposed the move to extinguish the devil himself, Osama bin Laden. Now he has second thoughts. Is that the type of regressive leadership we need in America today? How far do we have to slide in competition with the world’s communities before we wake up? While one percent of Americans are doing just fine swindling the resources of the rest of us, our nation continues to falter in the process.  Education, jobs and our competitiveness as an economic leader all have slipped. In fact, Mitt Romney’s opinions have been on the wrong side of most major issues that concern Americans; so don’t expect any real answers from him.

President Obama has done a great job defending America. Mr. Romney, instead of trying to denigrate the president’s achievements by equating him with Jimmy Carter, a more apt comparison could be drawn contrasting you with George W. Bush-League, who couldn’t tell an al Qaeda terrorist from a weapon of mass destruction.

However, Mr. Romney, you should be commended for one thing. You provided our federal government with leadership when as Governor of Massachusetts you fashioned a model health plan. I think it’s referred to as Romneycare. Now, you won’t even take credit for your owning doing. As I said before, you can’t have it both ways.
