A View from Left Field- Looking Back to the Future, the CPAC Convention of 2013

CPAC proved once again that Republicans can't get rid of their failed values.

America there’s hope for us.  The consensus coming out CPAC, the Republican’s “Conservative Political Action Conference,” held last week to galvanize right wing thought in an effort to bring back the 1890s, has once again proven that they don’t learn from their mistakes.  Talk that they want to remain true to their core values means that women do not have the right to choose, immigration reform is a pipedream, same sex marriage is patently wrong and entitlement programs for the poor and middle class have to be cut sharply so the wealthy can continue to pay less than their fair share taxes.  As a matter of fact, black smoke emanated from the rear of their conclave last Friday indicating that no meaningful ideas have arisen from their week-long meeting.

While the United States broadens its ethnicity with an increase in Latin and Oriental voters, the G.O.P. are odds with what to say to them.  In reality, they are the party of exclusion and can’t figure out how to pander to this new reality to get their votes.  I believe that if there is one dilemma that will drive them to extinction, this is it.  The good old axiom of white man rule has got up and gone.

Romney was particularly out of touch, when he lamented that 47% of Americans depend on government.  What they depend on are programs they reciprocally benefit from through the taxes they pay.  Let me add that all these life enhancing programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Affordable Health (Obama-care), Unemployment Insurance and a host of others were supplied to them thru the imitative of Democrats.

In contrast, the Republicans gave us two wars fought on credit cards along with massive tax giveaways to the rich.  You’d have to reach back to Lincoln freeing the slaves or Teddy Roosevelt’s trust busting activities for a major Republican contribution.  Unfortunately, today’s G.O.P. party leadership would even frown on these accomplishments.

Republicans are so entrenched in the singular purpose of trickling taxes up to those who need them least that they can’t see the forest from the trees.  They don’t come up with programs that embrace the masses because their hearts aren’t there.  Slowly but surely their sham is unearthing itself.  Their dogged focus on the third rail of American politics, the entitlement programs; has eclipsed their view of the two outer rails replete with a speeding train coming down the tracks to meet them.

As Telly Sevalas of old “Kojak” fame once said, “who loves you baby?”  Well it “ain’t” the Republicans.
