A View from Left Field- From Progressive to Regressive

Don't drink the Republican Kool-aid!

I dedicate this blog to my daughter C.S.M-G who grew up in a good and loving home, yet drank the Republican “Kool-aid”.  In slightly over 150 years the Republicans devolved from saving the country under President Lincoln to trust busting under President Teddy Roosevelt on to destroying unions and marginalizing government under Presidents Reagan and Bush II.  What a sellout, the Republicans defied advancement by moving from progressive to regressive!

Unfortunately many of you have drunk the “Kool-aid” too.  Read between the lines, interpret the code words and realize which political party best serves the needs of you and your families.  It was President Roosevelt who fought to institute social security so that the working force could retire with a modicum of dignity.  How many seniors today would like to relinquish their monthly social security checks?  For many, they couldn’t subsist without them

Thank President Johnson for enacting Medicare.  Every day someone in America receives the blessing and assistance of this indispensable program.  Without Medicare, many of you would practice self medicine, because you couldn’t afford to do otherwise.  Review all the social programs that heighten life for the masses, and the”raison d’etre” repeats itself time and time again, the Democrats.

Life under the Republicans is a wholly different matter.  Trickle down is the name of their game.  Place the money at the top and it will rain down to the less fortunate.  Great idea, except it doesn’t work.  In recent years the Bush II tax cuts resulted in the rich getting richer because the monies never trickled down.  At the same time, unemployment increased significantly for mainstream America. Now, Republicans are adamant about repeating this tax folly again.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice shame on me.

While influence peddling by lobbyists and the power politics of money cross party lines, the Republicans have brought these skills to an art form.  Even their compatriots on the U.S. Supreme Court epitomize the ruthless nature of Republican intentions by declaring that corporations are people.  Let the money flow and the elections begin.  All the Republican inaction in Congress these days is designed for one thing, to make President Obama a one term office holder.

The robber barons rule because the money is with them.  Only our faint solitary voices can put a stop to the “rape” of nation.   But they must get louder and more unified.  Profit, profit, profit, that’s all that matters to Republicans.  Our work force has been systematically depleted while the jobs were moved "en masse" out of the country.   Break the unions is the Republican cry around the country these days so everyone could work for less with a weakened benefits package. “Thank you” Scott Walker, G.O.P. Governor of Wisconsin, for starting this movement.

Success sometimes means that it’s time to give back.  The divisions between the haves and have-nots have sharpened in recent years, creating a harsh divide between our people.  Government has a useful function as does private enterprise.  Why don’t they work in concert and not as enemies, so the entire nation can be uplifted in the process?  Take greed out and put community back into our national mind-set, and we’ll all be back at work sooner than you’d expect!
