Metro Sponsors “The Pedal Powered Street Theater Ride,” led by C.I.C.L.E. and Bike Odyssey LA!

On Saturday, June 21, through a sponsorship by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), C.I.C.L.E. (Cyclists Inciting Change thru LIVE Exchange), along with Bike Odyssey LA, will lead a theatrical community bicycle event, “The Pedal Powered Street Theater Ride.” As we pedal along, riders will be immersed in stories from Homer’s The Odyssey, reimagined in modern Los Angeles County.  Audiences will ride through Angeleno history transformed into Greek legends of craftiness and pride; replete with all the monsters, epic poetry, and sacrificial vegetables you could ask for. This ride will make several stops throughout the Balboa Lake area to engage with fragments of this epic tale. Togas and/or laurel wreaths are encouraged!

As with all C.I.C.L.E. rides, this ride is family-friendly, leisurely paced and will return to the starting point after the event. C.I.C.L.E. rides are fully supported, led by trained Ride Leaders, an EMT, and volunteers. Prior to the ride we will address safe street riding and group ride etiquette to ensure smooth sailing. This ride is under 7 miles and will return to the starting point at the conclusion of the ride.

About C.I.C.L.E.: Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.) is a nonprofit organization working to promote the bicycle as a viable, healthy, and sustainable transportation choice.

About Metro: Metro is the planner, operator and builder of LA County’s expanding public transportation system. The agency plays an important role in bicycle planning across LA County, funding more than $155.5 million for bicycle projects since 1993, facilitating first mile/last mile connections to transit and supporting bicycle transportation through various policies and programs. Metro’s sponsorship of C.I.C.L.E. events helps fulfill the agency’s goals of encouraging bicycle trips and promoting safe cycling skills.

About Bike Odyssey LA: Bike Odyssey LA is a group of weirdos, performers and cyclists, working on making bike theatre happen. We are into local histories and social justice, the ability of theatre to weave itself into its community and to be a force for change. We think shared experiences and connecting are what life is all about, and work to create that. Oh, also we think bikes are pretty rad. We are an incubated production of Schkapf, and fiscally sponsored by Rogue Artists Ensemble.
