An exhibition of colorful, mixed media 

The mystery of fortune telling and the excitement associated with assisting a magician are a part in putting the play into this icon-driven mixed-media series by Southern California visual artist, Mara Thompson.

Vintage images, drawings, postage, rubber stamps, paint, ink and thread are among the materials used in Thompson’s series of tight, iconographic pieces. Thompson weaves a story with associated motifs and visual cues.

While the changing imagery moves the story forward, repeated echoes of the hand lend thematic structure and visual cohesion.

Mara Thompson has been working in Southern California for over thirty years. She is a member of Women Painters West and Collage Artists of America, showing frequently with both groups as well as independent group and solo shows. Her art pieces are in private collections throughout Los Angeles.
