New light has perhaps been shed on the cause of the gasoline price spike earlier this year. According to a recent report in the Los Angeles Daily News, refineries in California may have been manupulating prices.
As of Friday, the average price had decreased 84.9 cents in 38 days, including 1.4 cents on Thursday, after rising 50.4 cents over the previous seven days and reaching a record high of $4.705 on Oct. 9, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The streak of dropping prices is the longest since a 57-day streak that ended July 13.
