Studio City Joins in at the 'Wiener Dog Nationals' Movie

"Wiener Dog Nationals" is a delightful movie that has just been released on DVD and has included lots of local involvement from the San Fernando Valley.

The house where the movie was shot (which is supposed to take place in the Midwest) is located in Sherman Oaks. A lot of the "stand-in" and background Dachshunds are from the local Dachshund Meet-up group, and many of the actors in the movie are from Studio City and Sherman Oaks.

"We had such a great time learning about Dachshunds, they're such great dogs," said Caitlin Carmichael, who has lived in Studio City most of her 10 years, and plays one of the three children who secretly race their new dog in the competition against the will of their dad, played by Jason London.

The film also stars Alicia Witt, Austin Anderson and Morgan Fairchild.

In attendance at the premiere was Studio City Patch Dachshund columnist Johnny Ortez-Tibbels (http://studiocity.patch.com/blogs/johnny-orteztibbelss-blog) and other local residents who go on the monthly Dachshund Meet-up group meetings around the Southland.

Among the locals attending were Roberta Greenberg, Jodi Fun and her actor children Kassi and Zarek King and other Wiener Dog fans.

"I've come to appreciate the noble Dachshund," quipped co-writer and director Kevan Peterson. "Dachshunds are clever dogs, and they have a sense of irony."

Peterson attended one of the annual Wiener Dog National races sponsored by Wienerschnitzel and decided to write a movie around the races.
