Sherman Oaks Street Fair Draws Support for Local Schools [Video]

The annual event includes live performances, booths for local organizations, children's activities and more.

Tens of thousands of residents supported their community through food, music, and good times Sunday at the Sherman Oaks Street Fair. Hosted by the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce and held along half a mile on Ventura Boulevard between Van Nuys Boulevard and Kester Avenue, the free event donated proceeds to local schools.

Attendees enjoyed booths from local businesses and organizations ranging from dance studios, spas, auto repair shops and more. Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman (who are battling for the 30th Congressional District seat), and Councilmember Eric Garcetti (who is running for L.A. mayor in 2013) also had booths at the event to support their campaigns.

There were plenty of activities for adults and children, including carnival games and rides, a rock climbing wall and more. Entertainment included live performances, face painting, a balloon animal artist and a caricature artist. Pets seemed to be the stars of the event, and Irish wolfhounds, Welsh corgis, chihuahuas and Pomeranians were among the many dog breeds seen at the street fair. The event's pet expo featured dog adoptions and a petting zoo.
