Famed Author Leon Uris Had a Bookstore in Sherman Oaks

Author Leon Uris, who wrote the best selling book Exodus, once owned a book store in Sherman Oaks, according to the site LA Observed. Sherman Oaks lost its last bookstore in 2011 when Borders shut down.

The popular site  LA Observed reminded us this week that famed author Leon Uris once owned a book store on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks.

Uris' best known work is the historical novel Exodus, which came out in 1958. Most sources say that Uris, motivated by an intense interest in Israel, financed his research for the novel by selling the film rights in advance to MGM and by writing newspaper articles about the Sinai campaign.

Uris died at the age of 79 in 2003. Of course, book stores became newsworthy in Sherman Oaks since they have all closed.
